With our a day-in-the-life update, you’ll have an exclusive look into the daily challenges and achievements of a home stager.

We believe that you will definitely be craving more after hearing what a home staging typical day is like and the excitement that this profession brings.

However it is a demanding profession, there’s lots of planning expected but also lots of last minute errands and you will need to face it all. Nevertheless it is a very rewarding career and at the end of the day you will feel satisfied and invigorated by all the creative and inspiring process behind the staging world.

Keep in mind that this is not a 9 to 5 office job, it’s hectic, full of twists but also really fun.

Indeed the weeks before the actual staging day will be dedicated to the “administrative” part of the job. We’re talking about contacting clients, visiting the property you’ll have to stage, drafting a proposal, ordering furniture in case you don’t have them in-stock already and so much more planning.

This is why communication, creativity and ability to work your way around any possible unforeseen issue are crucial.

On the actual staging day you will need to come prepared and ready to turn your vacant property into a dream house in just a few hours.

Let’s get into it!

Here’s what you need to know about a typical day in the life of a home stager:

  1. It all starts at the storage!

Yes, the first thing that you will have to do is make sure that all the furniture and accessories that you’ve selected are ready to be transported to the property. It is advisable to take more small items than you actually need so that you can deal with a last minute change of heart once you’re actually in full on staging mode.

  1. The real deal: Unloading and getting into the game

You’re finally at the property so it’s time to unload all the inventory you brought with you and get to the staging part. Bear in mind that the final result will look glamourous but there’s no need to for you to look runway ready. Being comfortable is key, you will spend hours moving furniture and accessories!  Usually a professional stager will start from building the new furniture. After that, it’s time to focus on each area of the property so that you can have a global view of your creation coming together. Remember, you need to know what the room you’re staging will look like before starting to add artwork that you might want to remove later because it didn’t turn out the way you pictured it. Once you’re done with the main setups, you will then be ready to move onto artwork, taking into consideration what was discussed in your first meetings with your client. You need to make them fall in love with the result, build a place that feels like home. For this reason it’s best not to overdo the accessorising part. Let your creativity flow when adding accessories, flowers and cushions but keep in mind that it’s the house itself that has to shine, not your personal taste.

  1. Making it picture ready!

After spending hours working on the property it’s time to take beautiful pictures that will then go up on the Estate Agency website and will need to make every potential buyer interested in the property you staged!

The photos could be taken by either a photographer hired by you or the Estate Agency itself.

It might seem “unimportant” after all the work done but taking great pictures is actually a crucial step into the direction that you want your project to go.

The greatest project is the one that is able to stand out even through pictures, impressing potential buyers before even visiting the place. If you’re able to do that, imagine when they see it in-person!
